In today's age of surplus information, the task is to filter this surplus in a structured and independent way. I try to do this in the areas of fashion and art.
Even if a purely objective reproduction of events will never be possible, one can try to keep one's conscious subjectivity under control and present facts as facts. This does not mean that my texts reflect an objective view, as subconscious subjectivity will always be present, but at least I try to keep my conscious mind under control.
If we now return to the two subject areas I am dealing with, it must be said that the question understandably arises as to what relevance, apart from the capitalist benefits arising from consumption, they still have today. Nowadays, art is more detached from society than ever: museums are usually only frequented by renters who don't know what to do with their time, and if a person from the so-called Gen-Z ever gets lost in a museum, it's only because of a new planned Instagram story. In the fashion industry, it's the other way around. By enabling overconsumption through ever “better” functioning supply chains, all individuality has been destroyed and a state has been created in which subculture after subculture is raped by social media trends until the trend moves on and a self-destructed fringe group remains.
So why should you take the trouble to deal with these two topics?
The state of society today was not always like this. Art wasn't always seen as a pure aesthetic fulfiller that presented the apparent intellect to its followers on Instagram. In the past, art directly shaped the political and philosophical attitudes of society through its close influence on it. Fashion, on the other hand, brought a unifying force that allowed political alliances to be formed and anti-parliamentary actions to be carried out.
Fashion and art are by no means two insignificant branches of education that waste state money. Both worlds had an immense influence on the shaping of society. This influence must be regained. To this end, the task is to provide a calm reproduction of information in today's fast-moving society. This is what I am trying to do.
